Aetna’s Growth Slows Further in 1st Quarter 2017
Aetna reported growth in the Medicare Supplement market in 1st quarter 2017 that was slower than recent 12 month periods from 2015 and 2016. For 1st quarter 2017, Aetna reported Medicare Supplement member in-force counts of 711,000, up 26,000 from 4th quarter 2016 and 99,000 over the past 12 months. The 26,000 increase in membership during 4th quarter 2016 was 43% lower than the membership growth in 1st quarter 2016. Humana’s Medicare Supplement Growth Slows in 1st Quarter 2017
Humana reported 1st quarter 2017 Medicare Supplement lives of 231,400, a 10% increase over 1st quarter 2016. The table below shows Humana’s Medicare Supplement enrollment counts by quarter since 1st quarter 2008 and annual increase in Medicare Supplement enrollment counts by quarter since 1st quarter 2009. Humana also reported 1st quarter 2017 Medicare Supplement premiums of $118 million, up 13% from 1st quarter 2016. Based on estimates from CSG Actuarial, Humana’s sales over the past 12 months ranked in the top 6 of the market.
