Aetna Reports Results for 4th Quarter 2017

Aetna reported growth in the Medicare Supplement market of 7,000 members in 4th quarter 2017 and 55,000 members for full year 2017. Aetna’s Medicare Supplement member in-force counts have more than quadrupled since Aetna acquired Genworth’s Medicare Supplement block during 4th quarter 2011. Aetna’s Medicare Supplement membership growth rate did slow throughout 2017 due to an overall weakening of competitive positioning and increased competition from other market leaders on Plan G. Humana’s Reports Medicare Supplement Results for 4th Quarter 2017

Humana reported 4th quarter 2017 Medicare Supplement lives of 235,900, a 0.4% increase over 3rd quarter 2017 and an 8% increase over 4th quarter 2016. The table below shows Humana’s Medicare Supplement enrollment counts by quarter since 1st quarter 2011. Humana also reported 4th quarter 2017 Medicare Supplement premiums of $121 million, up 11% from 4th quarter 2016. Based on estimates from CSG Actuarial, Humana’s sales in 2017 ranked 7th in the market.

Torchmark Reports Medicare Supplement Sales in 4th Quarter 2017

Torchmark reported 4th quarter 2017 Medicare Supplement annualized new sales of $29.4 million, up 15% from 4th quarter 2016. For full year 2017 Torchmark reported Medicare Supplement annualized new sales of $66.3 million, up 9% from 2016. Torchmark’s annualized new business sales in 2017 ranked in the top 10 in the overall Medicare Supplement market.
