For 1st quarter 2023, CVS Health reported Medicare Supplement member in-force counts of 1,344,000, an increase of 52,000 over the past 12 months, but a decrease of 19,000 in the past quarter. The 52,000 increase in membership in the past 12 months is down almost 65% from the membership growth in the previous 12 months. The 19,000 decrease in Medicare Supplement lives in 1st quarter 2023 is the first quarterly decrease in lives incurred since Aetna purchased the block in 2011. CVS Health reported 1st quarter 2023 Medicare Advantage lives of 3,387,000, a 3.6% increase over 4th quarter 2022 and a 6.9% increase over 1st quarter 2022. As indicated in the table below, CVS Health’s combined Medicare Supplement and Medicare Advantage lives as of 1st quarter 2022 were 4,731,000, an 2.1% increase over the total at 4th quarter 2022. CVS Health’s combined Medicare Supplement and Medicare Advantage lives ranked 3rd in the market as of 1st quarter 2023.
