Clover Health will expand its Medicare Advantage footprint into 13 new counties across three states for the 2023 plan year, the insurer announced.
The company intends to offer coverage in the new Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee counties pending regulatory approvals. Open enrollment for Medicare begins on Oct. 15 for coverage beginning on Jan. 1, 2023.
Clover’s footprint currently includes 209 counties, covering about 85,000 people and the expansion will bring its total to 220 across eight states: Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. In addition to the new markets, Clover said it plans to exit two of its smaller region: El Paso, Texas, and Pima, Arizona.
“We are aiming to generate industry-leading growth during this year’s AEP, as we have over the past several years, and we’re focusing our efforts on our existing footprint where we have a proven track record,” said Andrew Toy, president of Clover,in a statement. “Clover Assistant is designed to lower costs and improve outcomes, and this year’s bids demonstrate our continued focus on passing savings back to our members in the form of great benefits at affordable prices.”
Clover said that it has seen significant growth in Georgia, echoing its expansion in New Jersey.
For the 2022 plan year, the insurer nearly tripled its membership in the Peach State by significantly building out its provider network, adding dozens of hospitals, health systems and other provider partners. The growth brought 5,000 primary care and specialty care providers into the insurer’s network.
Should the planned expansion be approved, Clover will offer MA plans in 151 of Georgia’s 159 counties, reaching nearly 650,000 Medicare beneficiaries
