Elevance Health (formerly Anthem, Inc.) released 1st quarter 2023 financials on April 19th, reporting decreases of 22,000 Medicare Supplement lives in the 1st quarter and 14,000 Medicare Supplement lives over the past 12 months.  The Elevance Health enrollment table below features Medicare Supplement policy in-force counts of 925,000 as of March 31, 2023.  The enrollment decrease of 14,000 in the past 12 months is a 1.5% decrease relative to the in-force lives at March 31, 2022.  CSG Actuarial projects Anthem’s Medicare Supplement sales at 4th in the overall market in the past 12 months.

This Elevance Health enrollment table shows Medicare Advantage enrollment counts of 2,053,000 as of March 31, 2023, a 132,000 increase in the past 12 months.  The 132,000 enrollment increase in the past 12 months is a 6.9% increase over the Medicare Advantage enrollment counts at March 31, 2022.

This combined Elevance Health enrollment table shows Medicare Supplement and Medicare Advantage enrollment counts of 2,978,000 as of March 31, 2023, a 118,000 increase in the past 12 months.  The 118,000 enrollment increase in the past 12 months is a 4.1% increase over the combined enrollment counts at March 31, 2022. Elevance Health’s combined Medicare Supplement and Medicare Advantage enrollment of 2.978 million at March 31, 2023 is approximately 4.6% of the overall Medicare enrollment at that same point in time.
