Medicare Supplement market leader United Healthcare (UHC) released 1st quarter 2023 financials on April 14th, reporting a 55,000 decrease in Medicare Supplement lives in the 1st quarter.  The UHC enrollment table below features Standardized and Modernized policy in-force counts of 4,320,000 as of March 31, 2023, a 35,000 decrease in the past 12 months.  The 55,000 decrease in lives in the past 12 months is an 0.8% decrease over the in-force as of March 31, 2022.

This UHC enrollment table shows Medicare Advantage enrollment counts of 7,545,000 as of March 31, 2023, a 645,000 increase in the past 12 months.  The 645,000 enrollment increase in the past year is a 9.5% increase over the Medicare Advantage enrollment counts as of March 31, 2022.

This combined UHC enrollment table shows Medicare Supplement and Medicare Advantage enrollment counts of 11,865,000 as of March 31, 2023, a 620,000 increase in the past year.  The 620,000 enrollment increase in the past 12 months is a 5.5% increase over the combined enrollment counts as of March 31, 2022.   UHC’s combined Medicare Supplement and Medicare Advantage enrollment of 11,865,000 at March 31, 2023, is approximately 18% of the overall Medicare enrollment at that same point in time.
